The refreshed Project Leadership Programme, part of the government’s plans for project leadership reform, has moved onto the next phase. Building on the success of the previous programme, it provides Civil Service project professionals with leadership capability and technical skills to deliver the government’s complex and challenging project management portfolio.
The programme forms a major part of the new Government Projects Academy, implemented by the Infrastructures and Projects Authority (IPA) to drive world class project delivery, as outlined in the National Infrastructure Strategy.
Working closely with our long-term partners Cranfield University School of Management, PA Consulting Group and The Project Academy, this programme includes many of the latest resources, techniques and ideas from the field of global project and programme delivery.
OPL’s substantial expertise in tailored competency management and coaching systems has been applied to develop new features, including a focused competency scale and user-friendly report. This will enable identification of organisation-specific strengths and development areas at the start, as well as evaluating the progress made at the end of the programme, a great way to measure return on investment.
First launched in 2015, the previous programme has seen over 1200 senior leaders from over 30 government departments complete the programme successfully. Over the next five years over 1000 senior government leaders will complete the programme and have the opportunity to become Chartered Project Professionals (ChPP) with the Association for Project Management (APM).
This academy approach has proven successful by global organisations such as Shell. Shell’s Project Academy (SPA) has provided great value to Shell’s employees, the projects they work on, and the business for over 15 years.
We are thrilled to be a part of the delivery of such an important and pivotal programme for the IPA and their project professionals.
